International day of the girl child.

We would like to celebrate the potential of every young woman to become a powerful voice in her community.

The idea for this day arose in 2003 as part of the “Because I am a Girl” campaign of the Plan International Deutschland e.V. In September 2008, the first still unofficial “International Girls' Day” was proclaimed. In 2009 the national organizations of Plan International asked the UN to officially support the day as a worldwide day of action. On December 19, 2011, the UN took up the idea. It was and still is supported, among others, by the German Bundestag, which voted on September 21, 2011 across factions for the establishment of the day. Since 2011, Plan International Germany has called the day in German "Welt-Mädchentag".

Join us as we appreciate each and every one of them and wish them a prosperous future.
